Girls Soccer it to 'em!

The Varsity Girls Soccer team capped off a fun season with an impressive second place finish at the Bell Invitational Tournament May 28th. Congratulations to tournament MVP Hannah Kirby as well as our graduating players: Tori Donovan, Rachel Ellingson, Meg Engelbert, Carolyn Feeley, Ashley Horlin, and Med Wudwud.

Classical Theatre

Grade 11 English students went to Carleton University on May 23 to see a live performance of Macbeth presented by the Classical Theatre Project.

Biotech Debate

What do you think of Genetically Modified foods? This, and other questions related to our biotechnological revolution, were discussed in a "town hall" setting that simulated a real-life biotech debate. Grade 11 biology students donned clothing appropriate to their chosen characters - farmer, preacher, construction manager, biotech engineer, and from the perspective of their characters, presented the pros and cons of spraying genetically engineered bacteria on strawberry plants in order to ward off the danger of early frosts. But the discussions moved on from strawberries to the broader issues of biotechnology, addressing concerns related to the environment, the economy, politics, and the safety and distribution of our food supply. The students enjoyed this merging of science and social studies.

Physics Rocks... er Rockets!

Grade 11 Physics students once again ARE doing rocket science as they explore the concepts of forces, motion and energy. Thanks to Emmett for the ph-antastic photo!

Not just talking about the weather...

Weather is a topic that contains a huge amount of science. How do we cover it all? For the past month, the grade 10 science students have been rotating through 10 weather activities exploring concepts like convection currents, Coriolis effect, albedo, and Bernoulli's principle, and applying these concepts to local and global weather patterns.
